A very brief glimpse of what turned into 3+ months of my life. Audiobookshelf is a self-hosted, open-source app for audiobooks, podcasts, and ebooks. It is also one of the most complex things I have ever seen. Hundreds of contributors. Years of pet features. Massive dichotomies in usecases. But hey, what's the fun if it's easy?
I ended up rebuilding the system from scratch to an absolute skeleton so maintainability is as easy as possible for the current and future contributors.
I'm still in the process of documentation. On top of the traditional system docs, I'm writing guidelines so UX isn't a total guessing game since for when people want to add little bits and bobs.
